Dedicamos la primera parte del programa al repaso de los tres discos favoritos de Mundofonías de febrero del 2026, que nos traen los músicos malienses Neba Solo & Benego Diakité, el francés migratorio Jocelyn Mienniel y los italianos del Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino. Continuamos en Italia, con un homenaje al músico y profesional de otros ámbitos de la música Erasmo Treglia, para desembocar en la crónica del festival Sur Jahan, en Bengala Occidental, en la India, escuchando músicas ibéricas, bengalíes, letonas y danesas que sonaron por allí.

We devote the first part of the programme to a review of Mundofonías’ three favourite albums of February 2026, brought to us by the Malian musicians Neba Solo & Benego Diakité, the French migratory artist Jocelyn Mienniel and the Italian group Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino. We continue in Italy with a tribute to the musician and professional in other areas of music Erasmo Treglia, before moving on to a chronicle of the Sur Jahan festival in West Bengal, in India, listening to Iberian, Bengali, Latvian and Danish music that was played there.

Este músico francés hace sonar las flautas de mil mundos (nada más adecuado para este programa) en su nuevo disco, titulado “Les instruments migrateurs” (‘Los instrumentos migratorios’). Es el nombre del proyecto que resulta de encuentros con otros artistas de…, efectivamente, mil mundos: Francia, Senegal, Japón, India, Irán, Egipto, Madagascar, Siria, Taiwán, Burkina Faso, Turquía, Brasil, Mali, Palestina y China.

This French musician makes the flutes of a thousand worlds resonate (nothing more fitting for this program) in his new album titled “Les instruments migrateurs” (‘The migratory instruments’). It is the name of the project that emerges from encounters with other artists from—quite literally—a thousand worlds: France, Senegal, Japan, India, Iran, Egypt, Madagascar, Syria, Taiwan, Burkina Faso, Turkey, Brazil, Mali, Palestine, and China.

Una de las músicas más fascinantes del planeta es el gamelán de Bali y Java. Se expresa a través de conjuntos en los que predominan instrumentos melódicos de percusión, generalmente metalófonos. Y si bien hunde sus raíces muy atrás en el tiempo, también está continuamente a la búsqueda de nuevas formas, gracias a los inquietos compositores y músicos contemporáneos que lo practican. Escuchamos algunos ejemplos de las últimas grabaciones del sello balinés Insitu Recordings, que son buena muestra de ello.

One of the most fascinating musical traditions on the planet is the gamelan of Bali and Java. It is expressed through ensembles in which melodic percussion instruments—generally metallophones—predominate. And although its roots reach far back in time, it is also in constant search of new forms, thanks to the restless contemporary composers and musicians who practice it. We listen to some examples from the latest releases on the Balinese label Insitu Recordings, which offer a fine demonstration of this spirit.

John Stankovic, Stanky, para los amigos y seguidores, precoz acordeonista de familia emigrante y minera, montó, hace ya unas cuantas décadas, esta explosiva banda cuya música ahora recopila el sello Canary Records. Dedicamos estas músicas a la gente trabajadora de cualquier origen que hoy, en los Estados Unidos, es víctima del acoso institucional. Y, por supuesto, a todos los currantes del mundo: ¡uníos (y bailad la polka)!

John Stankovic, Stanky to friends and followers, a precocious accordion player from a migrant, mining family, put together this explosive band several decades ago, whose music is now being compiled by the label Canary Records. We dedicate this music to working people of any origin who today, in the United States, are victims of institutional harassment. And, of course, to all workers around the world: unite (and dance the polka)!

Numerosas colaboraciones e interacciones entre músicos e inspiraciones de todos los continentes se entretejen en esta edición de Mundofonías, con muchas novedades y adelantos, y también nuestras #Mundofonews que nos hablan de la gira del violonchelista francés Matthieu Saglio o de la próxima edición del Flamenco Festival de Nueva York. Exploramos conexiones entre Europa y Oriente, Persia y África Occidental, los países nórdicos y los del sur de África, India con Australia, también Francia, el mundo árabe… y un buen remate flamenco por bulerías.

Numerous collaborations and interactions among musicians, along with inspirations from all continents, are woven together in this edition of Mundofonías, with many new releases and previews, as well as our #Mundofonews, which tell us about the tour of the French cellist Matthieu Saglio or the upcoming edition of the Flamenco Festival of New York. We explore connections between Europe and the East, Persia and West Africa, the Nordic countries and those of Southern Africa, India with Australia, as well as France, the Arab world… and a strong flamenco finale in bulerías.

El guitarrista bretón Yohann Le Ferrand impulsa este proyecto franco-maliense, combinando raíces, canto e instrumentos del África Occidental con una formación y sonoridad de rock, en un disco que ya desde su título lanza una propuesta bien clara: “Miwa”, es decir, ‘ven a bailar’.

The Breton guitarist Yohann Le Ferrand drives this Franco-Malian project, combining roots, singing and instruments from West Africa with a rock lineup and sound, on an album whose very title already makes a clear statement: “Miwa”, meaning ‘come and dance’.

Tributes, new releases and music for freedom

Comenzamos homenajeando a grandes artistas que se nos han ido recientemente, como el contrabajista inglés Danny Thompson, el cantaor andaluz Fosforito y el tañedor de guitarra portuguesa António Chainho. El resto del programa está dedicado a nuevos discos que nos llegan desde todos los rincones del mundo: las Azores, Australia, Santo Tomé y Príncipe, el Líbano, Francia y Argelia, conectando también músicas que vibraban hace décadas en la lucha contra el colonialismo en África, con otras que se levantan contra el horrible e injustificable genocidio de Gaza.

We begin by paying tribute to great artists who have recently passed away, such as the English double bassist Danny Thompson, the Andalusian flamenco singer Fosforito and the Portuguese guitar player António Chainho. The rest of the programme is devoted to new albums arriving from all corners of the world: the Azores, Australia, São Tomé and Príncipe, Lebanon, France and Algeria, also connecting music that was vibrating decades ago in the struggle against colonialism in Africa with other music that rise up against the horrific and unjustifiable genocide in Gaza.

Escuchamos la música de esta artista iraní radicada en Nueva York, cantante, compositora y tañedora de kamanché y violín: Mehrnam Rastegari. Junto con artistas de variopinta procedencia, instalados también en la Gran Manzana, nos lanza su interesante propuesta de raíces persas y alto voltaje rockero, plasmada en su disco “Dislocated pulse” (‘Pulso dislocado’).

We listen to the music of this Iranian artist based in New York, a singer, composer and player of the kamancheh and violin: Mehrnam Rastegari. Together with artists of varied backgrounds, also based in the Big Apple, she presents her compelling proposal rooted in Persian traditions and charged with high-voltage rock, captured on her album “Dislocated pulse”.

We discover rooted music that, from Serbia, offers us very diverse facets and approaches, ranging from the most traditional sound to the most uninhibited experimentation.
