Esta lista es la selección de discos favoritos de Mundofonías del año 2023, presentados en orden aleatorio. La nuestra es una lista no jerárquica, no numerada, que recoge esas grabaciones que nos han resultado más interesantes y que más placer nos han proporcionado durante este año. Es una lista completamente independiente, no comercial, no sujeta a ninguna otra consideración que el propio criterio de los que hacemos Mundofonías, teniendo en cuanta solo la calidad e interés de los álbumes. Los discos valorados para elaborar esta lista son los trabajos completos y originales recibidos durante el año (o finales del año anterior), sin importar dónde ni por quién hayan sido editados o el tipo de distribución que tengan.

This list showcases Mundofonías’ favorite albums of 2023, presented in a random order. Our selection is non-hierarchical and unnumbered, encompassing those recordings that have been more interesting for us and have given us more pleasure during this year. It’s a completely independent, non-commercial list, not subject to any other consideration than the criteria of the hosts of Mundofonías, solely focusing on the quality and interest of the albums. The albums evaluated to prepare this list are the original ones received in their complete version during this year (or at the end of the previous year), irrespective of where or by whom they have been published or their mode of distribution.

Un divertido programa en el que repasamos deliciosos y encantadores chapurreos musicales. En ocasiones, son piezas cantadas en castellano «de oídas», como ocurría con numerosos grupos africanos que tomaban prestados los cantos de sus soneros cubanos favoritos sin conocer el idioma y, en otras, mezcolanzas de lenguas o babélicos trabalenguas. Todo ello, como es marca de la casa, en piezas musicales bien cautivadoras. Escuchamos a André Minvielle, L’Attirail, Vaguement la Jungle, Sheila Chandra, André Toussaint, Étoile de Dakar, Star Band de Dakar, Orchestre Baobab 📸, Tabu Ley & African Fiesta y African Jazz.

An amusing program in which we review delicious and charming musical tongue twisters. Sometimes they are pieces sung in Spanish «by hearsay», as was the case with many African groups that borrowed the songs of their favorite Cuban soneros without knowing the language, and sometimes they are a mixture of languages or babelian twisters. All this, as is the trademark of the house, in very captivating musical pieces. Disfrutamos con los tres favoritos de Mundofonías del mes de diciembre del 2023, recreandonos en la muy fascinante y dispar música de Al Bilali Soudan, desde Tombuctú, los maestros indios Zakir Hussain & Rakesh Chaurasia y la creadora finlandesa Emilia Lajunen. Continuamos con más estrenos que nos traen mestizajes en torno al flamenco, el jazz, el rock la música magrebí y aires latinoamericanos.

We enjoy the three Mundofonías favorites of December 2023, exploring the fascinating and very different music of Al Bilali Soudan, from Timbuktu, the Indian masters Zakir Hussain & Rakesh Chaurasia and the Finnish creator Emilia Lajunen. We continue with more premieres that bring us mixtures of flamenco, jazz, rock, Maghrebi music and Latin American airs.

Nueva expedición oriental
New oriental expedition

En esta edición presentamos algunas recientes grabaciones que nos invitan a una nueva exploración musical con rumbo a Oriente. Abrimos con el proyecto hispano-persa-afgano Badieh y, seguidamente, resuena en las manos del maestro baluchi Ustad Noor Bakhsh 📸 el sonido de un curioso instrumento, la cítara benju, que tiene sus orígenes en Japón. Eso nos lleva a tomar rumbo hacia el Sol Naciente, para deleitarnos con las melodías de celebración niponas de Junnosuke Uehara, Washu Yoneya y Kisaburo Umeya. A continuación, disfrutamos con la alianza musical italo-kurda de Abdo Buda Marconi, siguiendo con otros proyectos que nos acercan el sonido de esa cultura relegada, la del pueblo kurdo, con Danûk y Nishtiman Project. Después, dos músicos iraníes trasladados a Canadá nos ofrecen sus respectivos trabajos musicales: el percusionista Ziya Tabassian y la tañedora del laúd tar, entre otros instrumentos, Maryam Tazhdeh. Y terminamos danzando en el Cáucaso con Papiers d’Armenies.

In this episode we present some recent recordings that invite us to a new musical exploration towards the East. We open with the Spanish-Persian-Afghan project Badieh, followed by the sound of a curious instrument, the benju zither, which has its origins in Japan, resounding in the hands of the Baluchi master Ustad Noor Bakhsh  📸. This leads us to head towards the Rising Sun, to delight us with the Japanese celebratory melodies of Junnosuke Uehara, Washu Yoneya and Kisaburo Umeya. Next, we enjoy the Italian-Kurdish musical alliance of Abdo Buda Marconi, followed by other projects that bring us the sound of this sidelined culture, that of the Kurdish people, with Danûk and Nishtiman Project. Then, two Iranian musicians who have moved to Canada offer us their respective musical works: the percussionist Ziya Tabassian and the player of the tar lute, among other instruments, Maryam Tazhdeh. And we end up dancing in the Caucasus with Papiers d’Armenies.
