Disfrutamos con “Planinata” (‘La montaña’), el nuevo y tercer disco (van a buen ritmo: uno por año) de los griegos Gidiki, que centran su atención y su pasión en las músicas helenas, tanto continentales como isleñas, y también en sones cercanos del resto de los Balcanes y de la vecina Anatolia.

We enjoy “Planinata” (“The Mountain”), the new and third album (they’re keeping a good pace: one per year) by the Greek band Gidiki, who focus their attention and passion on Hellenic music, both continental and insular, and also on related sounds from the rest of the Balkans and neighboring Anatolia.

La música gnawa lleva sus rituales de trance desde el norte de África al corazón de Nueva York, para encontrarse con la rumba cubana, la rítmica brasileña, así como con el jazz y la experimentación sonora de la vibrante escena de la Gran Manzana. Es la música de Saha Gnawa en su disco homónimo de debut.

Gnawa music brings its trance rituals from North Africa to the heart of New York, to meet Cuban rumba, Brazilian rhythms, as well as jazz and the sonic experimentation of the vibrant scene of the Big Apple. It’s the music of Saha Gnawa in their self-titled debut album.

Desde tierras valencianas, el proyecto impulsado por el músico griego allí afincado Spiros Kaniaris, en complicidad con estupendos músicos de la terreta, suelta amarras de nuevo con este disco, “Stanbrook”. Ese era el nombre de un navío gracias al cual muchos consiguieron escapar del terror franquista desde el puerto alicantino. Una nueva muestra de interesantes conexiones y exploraciones sonoras mediterráneas.

From Valencian lands, the project led by the Greek musician based there, Spiros Kaniaris, together with wonderful musicians from the region, sets sail once again with this album, “Stanbrook”. That was the name of a ship thanks to which many managed to escape Francoist terror from the Alacant/Alicante harbor. A new example of fascinating Mediterranean connections and sound explorations.
