Mundofonías 2018 #51 | Homenajes, cumpleaños, celebraciones y reivindicaciones / Tributes, anniversaries, celebrations and claims
Comenzamos con el homenaje al recién fallecido músico ugandés Geoffrey Oryema, para continuar con un clásico reeditado a cargo de Afro Cuban All Stars y de otro clásico, que debería ser también reeditado, de la Orquesta Baobab. Seguimos por territorios del folk europeo y canadiense, incluyendo al dúo francosueco Vingefang, que nos trae también algún aire brasileño que conecta con la última pieza a cargo de una banda poliédrica y activista: los texanos Free Radicals.
We start with a tribute to the lately deceased Ugandan musician Geoffrey Oryema, to continue with a reissued classical recording by Afro Cuban All Stars and another one that should be also reissued, by Orchestra Baobab. We continue through European and Canadian folk musical territories, including the French-Swedish duo called Vingefang, that also brings some Brazilian influences that connect with the last track played today, by the Texan multifaceted and activist band Free Radicals.

Llega el verano al hemisferio norte y con él un montón de festivales apetecibles de los que vamos desgranando sus programaciones, Después de la crónica del Ethno Port Poznań, volamos por Polonia, Suecia, Inglaterra, Alemania, Malasia, Canadá, Portugal y España para visitar Globaltica, EtnoKraków, Førdefestivalen, Womad UK, Rudolstadt-Festival, Rainforest World Music Festival, Sunfest, Festival Músicas do Mundo FMM Sines, Pirineos Sur… (continuará).
Summertime arrives to the Northern Hemisphere and a lot of tempting festivals with it. Repasamos los tres discos favoritos de Mundofonías del mes de junio: el recopilatorio «Listen all around: The golden age of Central and East African music«, el encuentro de los holandeses de la Amsterdam Klezmer Band con los húngaros de Söndörgő y, finalmente, la propuesta londinense y multifacética de Don Kipper. Después de volver por Hungría y pasar por Grecia continuamos con música de las Primeras Naciones de América del Norte y más felices encuentros y combinaciones: Norteamérica con Holanda y el sur de la India, China con Siria y Turquía con Bengala.
We review the three June favorite Mundofonías albums: the compilation «Listen all Around: The Golden Age of Central and East African Music«, the encounter of a Dutch band, the Amsterdam Klezmer Band, and a Hungarian one, Söndörgő, and, finally, a multifaceted project based in London: Don Kipper. After traveling again to Hungary and stop over in Greece, we continue with the music of the North American First Nations and more fortunate encounters and combinations: North America with the Netherlands and Southern India, China with Syria and Turkey with Bengal.
