Mil mundos en Radio 5 #211 (Radio Nacional de España): Panjshanbe Maftun

Panjshanbe Maftun

RNE Audio

The theocratic regime of the Taliban bans, among many other things, music. It is therefore hardly to be expected, in these times, that recordings will reach us from inside the country and, in fact, this album by Panjshanbe Maftun was recorded in Russia, where he had moved to study. On it, this Afghan artist of Tajik culture offers us his expressive songs in Hazara and Dari, accompanying himself on the dambura lute and harmonium.

– Panjshanbe Maftun – Che che afghani – Made in Lyublino: Afghan songs
– Panjshanbe Maftun – Ze sar-e kuy-e to – Made in Lyublino: Afghan songs

Raíces en busca de hogar
Roots in search of a home

We begin with plenty of new flamenco releases, building bridges that reach as far as Madagascar, before continuing with Latin American sounds from Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia and Bolivia, and ending with music from Ibiza. We listen to suggestions from our listeners and report on the recent Jornadas de la Guitarra Española Molino del Manto, while announcing the upcoming edition of WOMEX in Las Palmas and celebrating the award presented to the Bolivian artist Luzmila Carpio.
