Fogoso comienzo con lo nuevo de Eskorzo y más evocaciones de raíces africanas y afroamericanas, con grupos como Sertanília, presentes en el Womex, para continuar con folk europeo, con, entre otras cosas, el nuevo disco de Riccardo Tesi, y remate oriental con el iraní Keyvan Chemirani, estrenando Avaz, fantástico disco con conexiones bretonas, y el sirio Gani Mirzo, alzando la belleza de la música frente al horror que vive su tierra.
We start on fire with Eskorzo‘s new album and more evocations of African and Afro-American roots, with bands like Sertanília, that will perform at Womex, following up with European folk, with, among other things, the new Riccardo Tesi‘s album, and an Oriental ending with the Iranian Keyvan Chemirani and the première of his fantastic album Avaz, exploring Breton connections, and the Syrian Gani Mirzo, letting the beauty of the music rise up against the horror his land is suffering.

Dedicamos este programa íntegramente al WOMEX, la mayor feria global de las músicas del mundo, que se celebra este año en Santiago de Compostela entre el 22 y el 26 de octubre y de la que Mundofonías es medio colaborador. Entrevistamos a Ben Mandelson, quien fue el primer director del WOMEX y lleva 20 años en el equipo del mismo, y también a Vítor Belho, director de la organización local para esta edición en Galicia. Y escuchamos algunas de las músicas que sonarán en directo esos días en la capital gallega.
We dedicate this show entirely to WOMEX, the largest world music global fair that is going to be held this year in Santiago de Compostela, from 22nd to 26th October, and of which Mundofonías is a media partner. We interview Ben Mandelson, founder director of WOMEX, and Vítor Belho, director of the local organization for this edition in Galicia. And we listen some of the music that is going to be presented live those days in the Galician capital.

Repasamos varias piezas del recopilatorio The Rough Guide to music without frontiers que verá la luz en los próximos días, dedicado a los pueblos sin estado o reconocimiento político, escuchando músicas de la Mongolia y el Turquestán Oriental bajo administración china, de Baluchistán, el Sáhara Occidental, el País Vasco y otros ejemplos de los pueblos garifuna, oromo y gitano. En la recta final, seguimos en clave calé, homenajeando al rumbero Peret y terminamos también con un recuerdo para el músico indio U. Srinivas, ambos recientemente fallecidos.
We review some tracks from the compilation The Rough Guide to Music Without Frontiers that will be issued shortly, dedicated to the peoples without state or without political recognition. We listen music from the Mongolia and the East Turkestan under Chinese administration, from Balochistan, Western Sahara, the Basque Country and some other examples of Garifuna, Oromo and Gipsy music. We continue in a Gipsy mood, with a tribute to the great rumbero Peret and we finish remembering the Indian musician U. Srinivas, both recently passed away.

Del África austral al Extremo Oriente y a los finisterres atlánticos europeos: Fisterra en Galicia y el Land’s End cornuallés. Abrimos con el malgache Kilema, la edición taiwanesa de su disco y su colaboración con músicos de aquellas tierras, evocando las grandes migraciones de los pueblos austronesios por todo el Pacífico y el Índico. Seguimos con más travesías, como las recordadas en el álbum The musical voyages of Marco Polo, para continuar con música que suena en directo estos días, en el festival Madridfolk, en el aniversario de Tununtunumba o en el Festival Àsia, poniendo el toque de denuncia antisexista con las gallegas Habelas Hainas terminando en Cornualles con Dalla.
From Austral Africa to the Far East and the European land’s ends in the Atlantic: Fisterra in Galicia an the one in Cornwall. We start with the Malagasy musician Kilema, the Taiwanese edition of his album and his colaboration with musicians from that island, remembering the great migrations of Austronesian peoples all over the Indian and the Pacific oceans. We continue with more journeys, like those ones evoked in the album The musical voyages of Marco Polo, following up with music to be presented live these days at Madridfolk festival, Tununtunumba‘s anniversary or at Festival Àsia, adding an anti-sexist touch with Galician female band Habelas Hainas and finishing in Cornwall with Dalla.

Hablamos en esta edición con los componentes de una de las propuestas hoy en día más hermosas y creativas que parten de las raíces castellanas: El Naán, que presentan su disco Código de barros que ya fue seleccionado como Favorito de Mundofonías. Completa el programa otra interesantísima propuesta también desde Castilla: La Bojiganga.
In this edition we speak with the members of one of the bands that are constructing one of the most beautiful and creative proposals inspired in the Castilian music roots: El Naán, presenting its album Código de barros, that already has been chosen a Mundofonías’ Favourite. The show is completed with another very interesting Castilian proposal: La Bojiganga.

Los Favoritos de Mundofonías del mes de septiembre sirven para abrir esta edición, así que rendimos los correspondientes honores a los venezolanos Ismael Querales y Toñito Naranjo, los españoles Pan de Capazo y los húngaros Söndörgő. Continuamos con música sabrosa de ecos tropicales africanos y latinoamericanos, con mención al ciclo Hamaques que organiza en Barcelona Casa Amèrica Catalunya, para terminar con la fascinante experiencia del Soundwalk Collective por las comunidades gitanas del este de Europa.
The September Mundofonías’ Favourites are in charge of opening this issue, so we give the deserved honours to Venezuelans Ismael Querales and Toñito Naranjo, Spanish Pan de Capazo and Hungarians Söndörgő. We continue with flavored music with African and Latin American tropical echoes, also mentioning the Hamaques series organized in Barcelona by Casa Amèrica Catalunya, and we finish listening the amazing Soundwalk Collective‘s experience all along the Gipsy communities in Eastern Europe.
