La ruta nos lleva por Gales, Escocia, Irlanda, Occitania, Córcega y Bosnia, para asistir también a otros encuentros, uniones y reuniones en los que se exploran raíces europeas desde Croacia, Nueva York, Hungría, Serbia, Macedonia del Norte, Ucrania, Suecia, Inglaterra y, de nuevo, Escocia y Francia.

We travel across Europe discovering new rooted musical expressions born from the creativity and and artistic restlessness of remarkable artists and groups who visit us with their latest works. The route takes us through Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Occitania, Corsica and Bosnia, while also bringing us to other encounters, unions and gatherings in which European roots are explored from Croatia, New York, Hungary, Serbia, North Macedonia, Ukraine, Sweden, England and, once again, Scotland and France.

Esta estupenda cantora y multiinstrumentista italiana, Simona Di Gregorio, nos brinda un cautivador disco en el que ahonda principalmente en músicas de raíz siciliana, pero que nos sorprende con una inesperada conexión con la isla canaria de El Hierro y el legado de una venerada y recordada artista popular, Valentina la de Sabinosa, demostrando una vez más que en los cantares de las gentes y los pueblos de cualquier parte del mundo late un corazón común.

This wonderful Italian singer and multi-instrumentalist, Simona Di Gregorio, offers us a captivating album in which she delves primarily into music rooted in Sicily, yet surprises us with an unexpected connection to the Canary island of El Hierro and the legacy of a revered and fondly remembered traditional artist, Valentina la de Sabinosa, demonstrating once again that a common heart beats within the songs of peoples and communities from every corner of the world.

Repasamos los tres discos favoritos del mes, los favoritos de Mundofonías de junio del 2026, firmados por la italiana Simona Di Gregorio, el dúo francés Aptère y el noruego Hans Kjorstad. Y seguimos explorando nuevos discos y maravillosas músicas por los países nórdicos, con escarceos británicos y ucranianos, y por Brasil, para terminar en un encuentro mexicano-hawaiano.

We review the three favourite albums of the month, Mundofonías‘ favorites for June 2026, by the Italian Simona Di Gregorio, the French duo Aptère and the Norwegian Hans Kjorstad. We continue exploring new albums and wonderful music across the Nordic countries, with British and Ukrainian detours, and through Brazil, before ending with a Mexican-Hawaiian encounter.

El violinista Hans Kjorstad nos ofrece un disco que nos lleva al corazón de la Noruega más profunda y auténtica. Inspirado por las músicas recogidas entre los artistas populares de diversas regiones y valles de este país de abrupta orografía, ha querido transmitirlas respetando la variedad de afinaciones y rítmicas que en cada lugar se han ido desarrollando, lejos de propuestas uniformadoras y edulcoradas. Esto se plasma en el álbum “Dålågjel”, en el que le acompañan otros violinistas y multiinstrumentistas, imbuidos de similares inquietudes.

<>The violinist Hans Kjorstad offers us an album that takes us to the heart of the deepest and most authentic Norway. Inspired by the music collected from traditional musicians across various regions and valleys of this country of rugged terrain, he has sought to convey it while respecting the diversity of tunings and rhythms that have developed in each place, far removed from homogenising and sweetened approaches. This is reflected in the album “Dålågjel”, on which he is joined by other violinists and multi-instrumentalists who share similar concerns and interests.</>

Repasamos interesantes piezas de música klezmer y géneros cercanos a través de nuevas producciones discográficas que nos llevan por Nueva York, Ámsterdam, Italia, Ucrania, Canadá, Suecia e Inglaterra. Celebramos los 40 años de los neoyorquinos The Klezmatics y también felicitamos a los bibliotecarios de Kiev por el rescate de viejos documentos y manuscritos que nos acercan músicas, danzas, memorias e historias que se creían perdidas.

We explore fascinating pieces of klezmer music and related genres through new recordings that take us through New York, Amsterdam, Italy, Ukraine, Canada, Sweden and England. We celebrate the 40th anniversary of the New York band The Klezmatics, and we also congratulate the librarians of Kyiv for rescuing old documents and manuscripts that bring us music, dances, memories and stories once thought lost.

Kiya Tabassian & Constantinople

Un muy interesante músico para seguir la pista (sin despistarse mucho, ya que va a más de disco por año) es este artista iraní instalado en Canadá, Kiya Tabassian, quien, con su proyecto Constantinople, se embarca en las más variadas experiencias y encuentros. Le escuchamos en sus dos últimos trabajos, viajando al África occidental con el korista senegalés Ablaye Cissoko y explorando los encuentros musicales de los últimos ocho siglos entre Oriente y Occidente con el conjunto Holland Baroque.

A very interesting musician to keep an eye on (without losing track of him, though, as he releases more than one album a year) is this Iranian artist based in Canada, Kiya Tabassian, who, through his project Constantinople, embarks on the most varied experiences and encounters. We hear him on his two most recent works, travelling to West Africa with the Senegalese kora player Ablaye Cissoko and exploring musical encounters between East and West over the last eight centuries with the ensemble Holland Baroque.

Os traemos un nuevo programa que se llena de novedades y de tentaciones de música en vivo, con el anuncio de próximos festivales y sabrosos encuentros musicales por el mundo adelante. Muchos de ellos tienen lugar en tierras ibéricas, como el Poborina Folk, en Aragón; La Mar de Músicas, en Cartagena; el Festival Med de Loulé, en el Algarve, y el FMM, Festival Músicas do Mundo de Sines. Volamos también al Ethno Port Poznań, en Polonia, y al estreno del WOMAD de Glasgow. Celebramos igualmente al ganador de este año del prestigioso Premio Loano per la Musica Tradizionale Italiana, del que los dos hacedores de Mundofonías somos jurados: Davide Ambrogio. Suenan músicas de mil matices venidas desde París, Londres, Occitania, Ecuador, Portugal, Palestina, Italia y Bruselas.

We bring you a new programme filled with new releases and temptations of live music, along with announcements of upcoming festivals and delightful musical encounters around the world. Many of them take place in Iberian lands, such as Poborina Folk in Aragon, La Mar de Músicas in Cartagena, the Festival Med de Loulé in the Algarve and FMM – Festival Músicas do Mundo de Sines. We also fly to Ethno Port Poznań in Poland and to the debut edition of WOMAD Glasgow. The Klezmatics

El klezmer es una música nacida entre las comunidades judías de Europa central y oriental que viajó a los Estados Unidos con las grandes migraciones de finales del XIX y principios del XX. A partir de 1986, The Klezmatics han catalizado la escena klezmer de Nueva York, celebrando ahora su 40 aniversario con una serie de reediciones y la publicación de un nuevo álbum: “We were made for these times”.

Klezmer is a musical tradition born among the Jewish communities of Central and Eastern Europe that travelled to the United States with the great migrations of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Since 1986, The Klezmatics have been a driving force in the New York klezmer scene. They are now celebrating their 40th anniversary with a series of reissues and the release of a new album: “We Were Made for These Times”.

Se prende la candela en honor a grandes artistas que recordamos en esta edición de Mundofonías. Se trata del irreductible gran cantaor flamenco El Cabrero, de la gran voz de la India Asha Bhosle y de la inolvidable cantadora colombiana Totó La Momposina. De esta última rescatamos un fragmento de la entrevista que manteníamos con ella en el año 2010, donde tuvimos el lujo de oírla cantar para Mundofonías y sus oyentes. Esa candela viva también reluce para anunciar importantes eventos de música en vivo de tres continentes que anunciamos, como son Circulart, en Medellín, Colombia; A To Jazz, en Sofía, Bulgaria; el Festival Gnawa y de Músicas del Mundo de Esauira, Marruecos; el Festival de la Guitarra de Córdoba, en Andalucía, España, y las Nuits Flamencas d’Aubagne, en Francia.

The flame is lit in honour of great artists whom we remember in this edition of Mundofonías. They are the irreducible great flamenco singer El Cabrero, the great voice of India, Asha Bhosle, and the unforgettable Colombian singer Totó La Momposina. From the latter, we bring back a fragment of the interview we conducted with her in 2010, when we had the privilege of hearing her sing for Mundofonías and its listeners. That flame also stays alive in announcing major live music events across three continents, including Circulart in Medellín, Colombia; A To Jazz in Sofia, Bulgaria; Essaouira Gnawa and World Music Festival, Morocco; Festival de la Guitarra de Córdoba, in Andalusia, Spain, and Nuits Flamencas d’Aubagne, in France.
