Celebramos los 35 años del sello escocés Greentrax Recordings con la reedición de su histórico recopilatorio «Music & song from Scotland», aprovechando para destacar entre los «Esenciales» de Mundofonías a una de las artistas presentes en esa compilación: Catherine-Ann MacPhee. Viajamos también con la música de gallegos, galeses, gitanos de Europa y los pueblos del noreste de la India.

We celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Scottish label Greentrax Recordings with the reissue of their historic compilation «Music & song from Scotland«, taking the opportunity to highlight among the «Essentials» of Mundofonías one of the artists present in that album: Catherine-Ann MacPhee. We also travel with the music of Galician, Welsh, European gypsies and the peoples of northeastern India.

Transglobal World Music Chart

Repaso libre a la Transglobal World Music Chart del mes, confeccionada a través de la votación de un panel de divulgadores de las músicas del mundo de todos los continentes, del que los hacedores de Mundofonías somos cocreadores y coimpulsores. Este mes de junio del 2021, el número uno es para los italianos del Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino (CGS).

A loose review of the Transglobal World Music Chart for this month, determined by a panel of world music specialists from all the continents, of which the Mundofonías‘ presenters are co-creators and co-promoters. This month, June 2021, number one is for the Italian band Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino (CGS).

Volvemos con más ejemplos de poesía y canto popular improvisado, surcando, en este caso, el Mediterráneo, para encontrarnos con interesantes ejemplos de «gara poetica» (‘velada poética’) y «cantu a chiterra» de Cerdeña, «tsiattistá» de Chipre y «mantinades» de Creta. Regresamos después al Atlántico, para escuchar algunas ingeniosas interacciones repentistas del canario Yeray Rodríguez, primero con el cubano Alexis Díaz Pimienta y después con el argentino David Tokar. Y completamos el programa con más géneros improvisados: con un contrapunteo de los Llanos venezolanos y un «extempo calypso» de Trinidad.

Global winds

Vientos globales nos llevan desde las pequeñas aldeas a las grandes metrópolis, en pos del sentimiento y la expresión musical popular. Escuchamos ecos de Anatolia en Alemania y de la Kabilia en Norteamérica. Allí damos cuenta del inminente Global Toronto, desvelando algunos de los proyectos participantes. Continuamos con sones ibéricos, para seguir después con algunos de nuestros «Esenciales«, que hoy nos llegan desde Cataluña y Ucrania, para rematar con novedades asiáticas, desde Buriatia y Bengala.

Global winds carry us from small villages to large metropolises, in pursuit of popular musical feeling and expression. We listen to echoes from Anatolia in Germany and from Kabylia in North America. There we inform about the imminent Global Toronto, unveiling some of the participating projects. We continue with Iberian sounds, to follow with some of our «Essentials«, which today come to us from Catalonia and Ukraine, to finish with new Asian releases, from Buryatia and Bengal.

Repartiendo premios y homenajes
Delivering awards and tributes

Nos sentimos generosos y vamos repartiendo premios allí donde nos llaman a ejercer de jurados. Tenemos buen humor, claro, pero, llegado el momento, nos ponemos muy serios e intentamos que sean las mejores música las que alcancen los mayores galardones. Hablamos de los Premios MIN, los premios de la música independiente española, donde los dos hacedores de Mundofonías somos miembros del jurado desde hace años; del Premio Andrea Parodi, en Cerdeña, del que desvelamos sus ganadores y del que este año Juan Antonio ha formado parte del jurado internacional; así como de los Premios Radio_Head de la Radio Nacional Eslovaca, siendo Araceli, en este caso, componente del jurado, así como delegada internacional y asesora del World Music Festival Bratislava. Recordamos también el legado del gran Franco Battiato, recientemente desaparecido.

We feel generous and we go around handing out awards wherever we are called to serve as members of the jury. We have a good sense of humor, sure, but, when the time comes, we get very serious and try to make sure that the best music gets the biggest awards. We talk about the Premios MIN, the Spanish independent music awards, where we, the two Mundofonías makers, have been members of the jury for years; Premio Andrea Parodi in Sardinia, of which we reveal the winners and for which this year Juan Antonio has been part of the international jury; as well as the Radio_Head Awards of the Slovak National Radio, being Araceli, in this case, member of the jury, as well as international delegate and advisor of the World Music Festival Bratislava. We also remember the legacy of the great Franco Battiato, recently passed away.
