Comenzamos con los tres discos favoritos de marzo del 2026, que nos llegan desde Escocia, con el Firelight Trio; Hungría, con ViGaD, y Francia, con Les Fils Canouche. Seguimos después con joyas procedentes de o inspiradas en las raíces musicales indias, desde maravillas del pasado a deslumbrantes novedades, algunas incluso inéditas discográficamente.

We begin with our three favorite albums of March 2026, coming to us from Scotland with the Firelight Trio; Hungary with ViGaD; and France with Les Fils Canouche. We then continue with gems from (or inspired by) Indian musical roots, ranging from wonders of the past to dazzling new releases, some of them even unreleased on record.

Clifton Chenier

Con motivo del centenario de su nacimiento, se acaba de publicar una amplia recopilación que recoge el legado de este pionero del zydeco, música nacida entre la comunidad afroamericana de lengua francesa criolla de Luisiana. Se trata de Clifton Chenier, con cuyo acordeón vibramos una vez más entre los surcos de esta antología: “King of Louisiana blues and zydeco”.

On the occasion of the centenary of his birth, a wide-ranging compilation has just been released bringing together the legacy of this pioneer of zydeco, the music that emerged among the French Creole-speaking African American community of Louisiana. It features Clifton Chenier, whose accordion once again makes us vibrate through the grooves of this anthology: “King of Louisiana Blues and Zydeco.”

Traemos soplos de flautas y fuelles de acordeones, entre otras mil músicas, para viajar entre Persia, Albania, Líbano, Cataluña, Portugal, Luisiana, Madagascar, Mesopotamia y muchas Francias, en un programa en el que contamos con Olivier Rey, director del Babel Music XP de Marsella, como invitado para darnos las claves principales de la próxima edición de esta imprescindible cita.

We bring the breath of flutes and the bellows of accordions, among a thousand other musics, to travel between Persia, Albania, Lebanon, Catalonia, Portugal, Louisiana, Madagascar, Mesopotamia and many Frances, in a programme in which we welcome Olivier Rey, director of Babel Music XP in Marseille, as a guest to share with us the main keys to the upcoming edition of this essential event.

La música modal caracteriza muchas de las tradiciones orientales: la árabe, la persa, la turca, la india… También impregna músicas populares de diferentes lugares de Europa, desde los Balcanes a tierras más occidentales. Exploramos músicas de reciente factura y, en muchos casos, de reciente composición que nos llevan por estos caminos sonoros, a través de distintos tratamientos y en diferentes combinaciones, con especial incidencia en las músicas griegas, pero también en las sirias y de otras raíces.

Modal music characterizes many Eastern traditions: Arab, Persian, Turkish, Indian… It also permeates popular music from different parts of Europe, from the Balkans to more Western lands. We explore recently created music and, in many cases, recently composed pieces that take us along these sound paths through different treatments and in various combinations, with particular emphasis on Greek music, but also on Syrian music and others with different roots.

El maestro de la lira cretense, Stelios Petrakis, nos acerca un nuevo trabajo cuajado de colaboraciones de grandes artistas: “Lyric”, o, por su título en griego, “Lyrikon”. Composiciones propias y piezas tradicionales, especialmente de Grecia, pero también una valenciana dedicada a las víctimas de la dana, así como curiosas versiones, como una de Metallica, componen un disco que tampoco quiere olvidarse de las víctimas de Gaza.

The master of the Cretan lyra, Stelios Petrakis, brings us a new work rich in collaborations with great artists: “Lyric”, or, by its title in Greek, “Lyrikon”. Original compositions and traditional pieces, especially from Greece, but also a Valencian one dedicated to the victims of the floods, as well as curious versions, such as one of Metallica, make up an album that also does not want to forget the victims of Gaza.

Repaso libre a la Transglobal World Music Chart de este mes, confeccionada a través de la votación de un panel de divulgadores de las músicas del mundo de todos los continentes, del que los hacedores de Mundofonías somos cocreadores y coimpulsores.Esta vez viajamos por Mali, Hungría, Perú, los Países Bajos. Grecia, Francia, Argenitina, Italia, Burkina Faso y el País de Gales. Terminamos donde empezamos, en Mali, con el número 1 de Neba Solo & Benego Diakité.

Our loose overview of this month’s Transglobal World Music Chart, created through the voting of a panel of world music disseminators from all continents, of which the makers of Mundofonías are co-creators and co-promoters. We let ourselves be seduced by the Amazonian cumbia that resonated half a century ago in Iquitos, as well as in other places in Peru and around the world, and that continues to captivate us today thanks to the compilation just released by Analog Africa.
