We bring the report from the Ethno Port festival, held in Poznań, Poland, featuring some of the artists who captivated us, including the musical greeting sent from there by Almir Mešković and Daniel Lazar. The Ragu Dixit Project

Como un vendaval de ganas de vivir se le apareció al músico indio Ragu Dixit la inspiración para estas canciones, después de un periodo de profunda depresión y desmotivación. El título, “Shakkar” (‘azúcar’, en hindi) es una metáfora de la felicidad en su estado más simple y puro, como el recuerdo de saborear un dulce en la niñez. El disco cuenta con destacadas colaboraciones, como, entre otras, las de Béla Fleck y Michael League, en las canciones que escuchamos.

Like a gust of life-affirming energy, inspiration came to the Indian musician Ragu Dixit for these songs, after a period of deep depression and lack of motivation. The title, “Shakkar” (‘sugar’, in Hindi) is a metaphor for happiness in its simplest and purest form, like the memory of tasting a sweet in childhood. The album features notable collaborations, including, among others, Béla Fleck and Michael League, on the songs we hear.

Kraffft

Desde Francia, concretamente desde Bretaña, nos llega la intrigante música de este quinteto de artistas procedentes del rock y del folk: Kraffft. A través del no menos inquieto sello Vlad Records nos ofrecen un primer disco de larga duración, homónimo, con sorprendentes músicas de ingredientes balcánicos, etiópicos, orientales, psicodélicos y electrizantes.

From France, specifically from Brittany, comes the intriguing music of this quintet of artists with backgrounds in rock and folk: Kraffft. Through the equally restless label Vlad Records, they offer a first full-length album, self-titled, with surprising music featuring Balkan, Ethiopian, Eastern, psychedelic and electrifying ingredients.

Escuchamos algunas de las músicas que sonarán en estas convocatorias, y que nos llevan por Francia, África del Norte, Colombia, Italia, Alemania o Bélgica, con diferentes conexiones. Nos fijamos también en los galardonados este año en el Premio Nazionale Città di Loano per la Musica Tradizionale Italiana, que cuenta con Juan Antonio Vázquez entre los miembros del jurado.

Artistas de Polonia y Bielorrusia se dan cita en este quinteto, la Hajda Banda, que nos acerca piezas muy animadas y bailables, inspiradas en las tradiciones fronterizas de esos países, desde su segundo y nuevo disco, el autoproducido “Niepraudzivaya” (‘No verdadera’).

Artists from Poland and Belarus come together in this quintet, Hajda Banda, bringing us lively and danceable pieces inspired by the borderland traditions of those countries, from their second and new album, the self-produced “Niepraudzivaya” (‘Not true’).

We begin with the three Mundofonías favorite albums of July 2025, by Kraffft from France, Hawa & Kassé Mady Diabaté from Mali, and Mustafa Said & Asil Ensemble from Egypt. We bring a vibrant selection of recently released European folk albums, taking us mainly on a journey through Northern Europe. We explore some Nordic countries: Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway, travel also through Poland and Belarus, pass by Scotland and Ireland, and return to the continent to end in Belgium and France.

Roots rocking Zimbabwe

Nos vamos al Zimbabue de los años inmediatamente anteriores a su independencia, entre 1975 y 1980. Su capital, Harare, era un hervidero de influencias musicales locales e importadas que fueron dando forma a un sonido característico y original, sin dejar de ser tremendamente plural, como se refleja en esta recopilación que acaba de publicar Analog Africa: “Roots rocking Zimbabwe: The modern sound of Harare townships, 1975-1980”.

We head to Zimbabwe in the years immediately preceding its independence, between 1975 and 1980. Its capital, Harare, was a hotbed of local and imported musical influences that shaped a distinctive and original sound, while remaining remarkably diverse, as reflected in this compilation just released by Analog Africa: “Roots rocking Zimbabwe: The modern sound of Harare townships, 1975-1980”.

We navigate between new music and magnificent reissues, between vocal and instrumental pieces, and between dances and reflective tunes. We travel with music of a thousand faces across Brittany, England, Denmark, Norway, Epirus, the Carpathians, Persia and klezmer music, with artists also arriving from Iberian, Italian and Canadian lands.
