Este grupo francés, adalid del ethio-jazz, ha incorporado en sus últimos trabajos la voz de la cantora maliense Mamani Keita y del rapero estadounidense Mike Ladd. Su flamante nuevo disco, publicado por Accords Croisés, se titula “Danama”, ‘Digno de confianza’, en lengua bambara.

This French group, a champion of ethio-jazz, has included in its recent works the voice of Malian singer Mamani Keita and American rapper Mike Ladd. Their brand-new album, released by Accords Croisés, is titled “Danama”, meaning ‘Trustworthy’ in the Bambara language.

Especialistas en tango finlandés y en otros géneros populares del país (sí, el tango es tremendamente popular en Finlandia), el grupo Uusikuu (‘Luna Nueva’) nos brinda su nuevo disco «Piknik«, publicado por Nordic Notes. En él nos sorprenden, entre otras piezas, con una inesperada versión de Baccara, grupo del que la cantante, Laura Ryhänen, confiesa haber sido fan acérrima desde la infancia.

Experts in Finnish tango and other popular genres from the country (yes, tango is extremely popular in Finland), the band Uusikuu (‘New Moon’) presents us with their new album «Piknik«, released by Nordic Notes. Among other pieces, they surprise us with an unexpected version of Baccara, a group that the singer, Laura Ryhänen, admits to having been a devoted fan of since childhood.

El quinteto belga Black Flower bebe de muchas inspiraciones: ethio-jazz, afrobeat, dub, rock progresivo, aires orientales, jazz experimental…, para crear una música única e inclasificable, como nos vuelve a demostrar en su quinto trabajo, “Kinetic”, recién publicado por Sdban Ultra.

The Belgian quintet Black Flower draws inspiration from many sources: ethio-jazz, afrobeat, dub, progressive rock, oriental influences, experimental jazz…, to create a unique and unclassifiable sound, as they once again demonstrate in their fifth release, “Kinetic”, recently published by Sdban Ultra.

Comenzamos descubriendo el muy interesante proyecto Folk_ME, que, desde Hungría, nos sumerge en la interpretación de las músicas tradicionales, ofreciendo la oportunidad de escudriñarlas en profundidad. Nuestro invitado es Miklós Both, director de la Hagyományok Háza, (Casa de las Tradiciones), quien nos explica este proyecto y nos presenta tres fascinantes piezas provenientes de Ucrania y Transilvania. Disfrutamos también con novedades y adelantos que nos llevan por Hungría, Anatolia, Noruega, Bretaña y Gran Bretaña, homenajeando también al gran artista francés Gabriel Yacoub, recientemente desaparecido, con músicas del mítico grupo Malicorne.

We begin by exploring the highly interesting Folk_ME project, which, from Hungary, delves into the interpretation of traditional music, offering the opportunity to examine it in depth. Our guest is Miklós Both, director of Hagyományok Háza (House of Hungarian Heritage), who explains this project and presents three fascinating pieces coming from Ukraine and Transylvania. We also enjoy with new releases and previews that take us through Hungary, Anatolia, Norway, Brittany, and Great Britain, also paying tribute to the great French artist Gabriel Yacoub, recently passed away, with music from the legendary group Malicorne.

Íbamos a decir que esta música nos llega de Afganistán, pero no: en Afganistán la música está perseguida por el gobierno teocrático de los talibanes. Por ello, los componentes del Fanoos Ensemble nos proponen este “Echoes of Afghanistan” desde el exilio, no solo como brillante propuesta artística, sino como un manifiesto por la libertad a través de la música.

We were going to say that this music comes to us from Afghanistan, but no: in Afghanistan, music is persecuted by the Taliban’s theocratic government. For this reason, the members of Fanoos Ensemble present this “Echoes of Afghanistan” from exile, not only as a brilliant artistic proposal but also as a manifesto for freedom through music.

Disfrutamos con grabaciones de sellos independientes pakistaníes que nos descubren maravillosas voces. Escuchamos también a grandes figuras de qawwali que regresan, así como a artistas femeninas que reivindican su presencia en ese espacio. También a míticos y veteranos músicos indios embarcados en mil aventuras y a otros que van desplegando desafiantes carreras, en simbiosis musical con otros estilos y artistas de diferentes procedencias.

We travel across the Indian subcontinent, exploring some of the most interesting recent or upcoming album releases. We enjoy recordings from independent Pakistani labels that unveil marvelous voices. We also listen to great qawwali masters making a comeback, as well as female artists asserting their presence in this space. Additionally, we hear legendary and veteran Indian musicians who have embarked on countless adventures, as well as others who are forging bold careers in musical symbiosis with different styles and artists from diverse backgrounds.
