El European Folk Day es un día de celebración de las músicas de raíz hechas en Europa, impulsado por la European Folk Network, una red que agrupa a profesionales, divulgadores y otros actores de estas sonoridades enraizadas. “Mil mundos en Radio 5” se une a esta convocatoria con este programa que, a la vez, se hace eco de otras dos iniciativas que se suman: el ciclo Klangkosmos, en Alemania, que este mes cuenta con las británicas The Rheingans Sisters, y la European Folk Night, que se celebra esta noche en Luxemburgo, con actuaciones como la de los belgas del Hartwin Trio, a quienes escuchamos.

European Folk Day is a day celebrating roots music made in Europe, promoted by the European Folk Network, a network bringing together professionals, communicators and other actors involved in these rooted sounds. “Mil Mundos en Radio 5” joins this initiative with this programme, which also highlights two other participating initiatives: the Klangkosmos series in Germany, which this month features the British The Rheingans Sisters, and European Folk Night, taking place tonight in Luxembourg, with performances including that of the Belgian Hartwin Trio, whom we hear.

A pesar de las dificultades que atraviesa el país, de la guerra, los bombardeos y las agresiones externas, sigue vibrando en el Líbano una escena de artistas muy creativos y vinculados a sus raíces musicales, que reinterpretan de manera sumamente interesante, como es el caso de este trío acústico, Tilt, que debuta con un estupendo disco: “Wasm”.

Despite the difficulties the country is going through, the war, the bombings and external aggression, a scene of highly creative artists deeply connected to their musical roots continues to thrive in Lebanon, reinterpreting them in extremely interesting ways, as in the case of this acoustic trio, Tilt, who make their debut with an excellent album: “Wasm”.

Trío Tikismikis

Dos artistas argentinos y una francoespañola se encuentran en la ciudad francesa de Toulouse para dar vida a esta formación, el Trío Tikismikis, que orienta sus inspiraciones a las músicas del noroeste argentino y nos presenta un disco de debut que destila autenticidad y belleza: “Pedaleando sueños”.

Two Argentine artists and a French-Spanish one come together in the French city of Toulouse to form Trío Tikismikis, drawing their inspiration from the music of north-western Argentina and presenting a debut album that exudes authenticity and beauty: “Pedaleando Sueños”.

European Folk Day

Celebramos las músicas de raíz hechas en Europa (ya sean de raíces europeas o venidas de otras partes del globo), sumándonos al European Folk Day, que se celebra todos los años en torno al 23 de septiembre, impulsado por la European Folk Network, con el objetivo de dar visibilidad a estas músicas enraizadas. Las músicas nos traen aires británicos, escandinavos, griegos, húngaros, portugueses, valencianos, catalanes, finlandeses, alemanes y franceses, con conexiones anatolias, japonesas, norteafricanas, flamencas y otras.

We celebrate roots music made in Europe (whether rooted in European traditions or brought from other parts of the globe), joining European Folk Day, which is held every year around 23 September and promoted by the European Folk Network, with the aim of giving greater visibility to these rooted musical expressions. The music brings us British, Scandinavian, Greek, Hungarian, Portuguese, Valencian, Catalan, Finnish, German and French flavours, with Anatolian, Japanese, North African, flamenco and other connections.

En esta edición de Mundofonías trazamos nuestros viajes sonoros por todo el planeta, abriendo nuevas rutas que ni las más avanzadas aplicaciones de navegación y geolocalización habrían soñado. Partimos de Australia, conectando rápidamente con el otro extremo del globo, con Cataluña, para surcar enseguida el Mediterráneo, recalando en Siria e Italia, estableciendo enseguida otra inesperada conexión entre Córcega y Persia. Continuamos por inéditos derroteros que enlazan Bengala, Nepal y, de nuevo, Australia, para rematar en Corea y Japón, con conexiones chinas. En nuestras #Mundofonews anticipamos lo que se podrá disfrutar en convocatorias de las que Mundofonías es medio colaborador, como la Fira Mediterrània de Manresa, en Cataluña, y el Premio Andrea Parodi, en Cerdeña. De este último, el mundófono Juan Antonio es miembro del jurado internacional. También nos detendremos en Córcega, para hablar de los Rencontres de Chants Polyphoniques de Calvi.

In this edition of Mundofonías, we chart our musical journeys across the entire planet, opening up new routes that not even the most advanced navigation and geolocation applications could have dreamed of. We set out from Australia, quickly connecting with the other side of the globe, with Catalonia, before immediately crossing the Mediterranean, stopping in Syria and Italy, and then establishing another unexpected connection between Corsica and Persia. We continue along unexplored routes linking Bengal, Nepal and, once again, Australia, before ending in Korea and Japan, with Chinese connections. In our #Mundofonews, we look ahead to what audiences will be able to enjoy at events for which Mundofonías is a media partner, such as the Fira Mediterrània de Manresa, in Catalonia, and the Premio Andrea Parodi, in Sardinia. Mundofonías’ Juan Antonio is a member of the international jury of the latter. We also stop in Corsica to talk about the Rencontres de Chants Polyphoniques de Calvi.

Festival de los Pueblos Ibéricos

El 17 de septiembre del 2026, al día siguiente de la emisión de este programa, se celebrará la edición conmemorativa del 50 aniversario del Festival de los Pueblos Ibéricos, que tuvo lugar en el campus de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid en 1976, a pocos meses de la muerte del dictador, cuando los anhelos de libertad y también el deseo de reconocimiento de la diversidad de nuestras tierras y culturas clamaban por dejarse oír, incluyendo en ese sentimiento a Portugal, recién salido también de una dictadura. Escuchamos al recordado José Afonso, el gran Zeca, presente en la primera edición, y a la igualmente grande cantora mallorquina Maria del Mar Bonet, quien repite en la presente edición, al igual que Luis Pastor o Manuel Gerena, entre muchos otros artistas. On 17 September 2026, the day after this programme is broadcast, the commemorative edition marking the 50th anniversary of the Festival de los Pueblos Ibéricos will take place. The original festival was held on the campus of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 1976, just a few months after the dictator’s death, at a time when aspirations for freedom and the desire for recognition of the diversity of our lands and cultures were clamouring to be heard, with Portugal, also newly emerged from a dictatorship, included in that shared feeling. We listen to the much-missed José Afonso, the great Zeca, who took part in the first edition, and to the equally great Mallorcan singer Maria del Mar Bonet, who returns for the present edition, as do Luis Pastor and Manuel Gerena, among many other artists. We open with the three Mundofonías’ favourite albums of September 2026, by Cuadra Collective, from Scandinavia, the Lebanese trio Tilt and the Afghan artist of Tajik culture Panjshanbe Maftun. El artista australiano Ngulmiya, procedente de las comunidades indígenas del norte del continente, ha llevado sus expresivos cantos tradicionales a los escenarios del mundo. Y ha querido titular su último trabajo como “Catalunya”, en homenaje a la tierra del guitarrista Pau Figueres, con quien ha colaborado estrechamente en su elaboración.

The Australian artist Ngulmiya, from the Indigenous communities of the north of the continent, has taken his expressive traditional songs to stages around the world. And he has chosen to title his latest work “Catalunya”, in homage to the land of guitarist Pau Figueres, with whom he has worked closely on its creation.

Balogh Melinda, Erdőfű, Janusz Prusinowski Kompania

Después de cruzarse en diversos festivales y encontrarse en diversas circunstancias, estos artistas húngaros y polacos decidieron emprender un trabajo conjunto que revelase esa afinidad de interpretar las músicas de sus tradiciones de la manera más genuina. Se trata de la cantora magiar Balogh Melinda, los también húngaros Erdőfű y la Janusz Prusinowski Kompania, desde Polonia, con este disco: “Miedza | Mezsgye | Balk” (‘Linde’).

After crossing paths at various festivals and meeting in different circumstances, these Hungarian and Polish artists decided to embark on a joint project that would reveal their shared affinity for performing the music of their traditions in the most genuine way. They are Magyar singer Balogh Melinda, the also Hungarian Erdőfű and the Janusz Prusinowski Kompania, from Poland, with this album: “Miedza | Mezsgye | Balk”.

Como un colibrí que revuela por el mundo, esta edición de Mundofonías te regala maravillosas músicas: estrenos latinoamericanos, festivales inminentes y sentidos homenajes. Nuestras #Mundofonews nos traen noticias de la Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla, del Festival Arabesques de Montpellier y del Festival Intercéltico de Orejo. Nos acordamos de artistas y personas relacionadas con las músicas de los pueblos recientemente fallecidas, como el uruguayo Rubén Rada, el cineasta cronista de las culturas gitanas Tony Gatlif, el tocaor flamenco Pepe Habichuela, el también flamenco Ricardo Pachón, productor determinante en el devenir de este arte en las últimas décadas, y el caboverdiano Bino Branco, figura del funaná y del grupo Ferro Gaita. Like a hummingbird fluttering around the world, this edition of Mundofonías gives you wonderful music: Latin American premieres, imminent festivals and heartfelt tributes.
