Desde Japón, con amor (“From Japan with love”), se nos acercan estos japoneses tropicalizados de Minyo Crusaders, con su nuevo y, como es habitual, estupendo disco, publicado por el prestigioso sello Blue Note. En él siguen la línea de anteriores trabajos, enhebrando cantos tradicionales japoneses (minyo) con cálidas rítmicas y armonías de cumbia, “afrobeat”, dub o bugalú.

“From Japan with Love”, these tropicalised Japanese musicians of Minyo Crusaders come our way with their new and, as usual, excellent album, released by the prestigious label Blue Note. On it, they continue in the line of their previous works, threading traditional Japanese songs (minyo) together with warm rhythms and harmonies of cumbia, afrobeat, dub and boogaloo.

Escuchamos a este conjunto de maestros de la música clásica persa que componen el Sepidar Ensemble. Adelantamos una pieza inédita de sus próximas ediciones discográficas y anunciamos dos citas con ellos en Madrid: su concierto el sábado 5 de septiembre en Espacio Ronda y una mesa redonda el día anterior en el Centro Persépolis, en la que dialogaremos con los miembros del grupo y que tendré el gusto de moderar en compañía de dos expertos como Sara Islán y Michel Gasco. We listen to this ensemble of masters of Persian classical music who make up the Sepidar Ensemble. We preview an unreleased piece from their forthcoming album releases and announce two events with them in Madrid: their concert on Saturday 5 September at Espacio Ronda and a round table the previous day at Centro Persépolis, where we will talk with the members of the group and which I will have the pleasure of moderating alongside two experts, Sara Islán and Michel Gasco. Repaso libre a la Transglobal World Music Chart de este mes, confeccionada a través de la votación de un panel de divulgadores de las músicas del mundo de todos los continentes, del que los hacedores de Mundofonías somos cocreadores y coimpulsores. En esta ocasión, la música nos lleva por Inglaterra, con inspiraciones etíopes; por Canadá, con inspiraciones armenias; por Francia, con inspiraciones colombianas; por California, con inspiraciones ucranianas; trayendo también la música de los tuaregs y viajando por el Líbano, Occitania, Finlandia, Sicilia y Malawi. El número uno nos lo ofrece la alianza mexicano-colombiana de Mexican Institute of Sound & Meridian Brothers.

A free overview of this month’s Transglobal World Music Chart, compiled through the voting of a panel of world music specialists from all continents, of which the makers of Mundofonías are co-creators and co-promoters. On this occasion, the music takes us through England, with Ethiopian inspirations; through Canada, with Armenian inspirations; through France, with Colombian inspirations; through California, with Ukrainian inspirations; also incorporating the music of the Tuareg people and journeying through Lebanon, Occitania, Finland, Sicily and Malawi. The number one comes from the Mexican-Colombian alliance of Mexican Institute of Sound & Meridian Brothers.

Desde la capital de Hungría, Budapest, se nos presenta BudaPesme: dúo de voz y acordeón compuesto por Veronika Varga y Benedek Réti. Su repertorio mira hacia el sur, hacia los Balcanes, y en este disco, “Makedonija”, especialmente hacia las tradiciones musicales de Macedonia del Norte.

From Hungary’s capital, Budapest, comes BudaPesme, a voice and accordion duo formed by Veronika Varga and Benedek Réti. Their repertoire looks southward, toward the Balkans, and on this album, “Makedonija”, it focuses particularly on the musical traditions of North Macedonia.

Emprendemos una nueva y amorosa travesía global, presentando muy interesantes novedades discográficas con aires japoneses, caribeños, italianos, polacos, húngaros, balcánicos, palestinos, ibéricos, tayikos, afganos, australianos y taiwaneses. Despedimos también a la violinista y cantora polaca Joanna Słowińska, quien hace poco nos dejaba.

We set out on a new and loving global journey, presenting very interesting new releases with Japanese, Caribbean, Italian, Polish, Hungarian, Balkan, Palestinian, Iberian, Tajik, Afghan, Australian and Taiwanese airs. We also bid farewell to the Polish violinist and singer Joanna Słowińska, who passed away recently.

From its Cuban roots, linking up with the whole continent, Orkesta Akokán, champion of mambo interwoven with boogaloo, soul, jazz, salsa and Cuban son, visits us with its new album, “América!”, also tempting us with the announcement of its upcoming concerts in Iberian lands.

Noches de África en Montreal
African nights in Montreal

Después de un comienzo flamenco, anunciando la reaparición escénica de Rafael Amargo, dedicamos el resto del programa al festival Nuits d’Afrique, que hace pocos días celebraba su 40.ª edición en la cosmopolita ciudad de Montreal, Quebec, Canadá. En él estuvo presente el mundófono Juan Antonio Vázquez, de donde se trajo músicas, voces, conversaciones e impresiones y hasta una fabulosa grabación inédita del concierto que allí dieron Les Frères Sissokho. Hablamos con ellos, con el artista haitiano Wesli, con el burkinés Kanazoé y demás miembros de su Orkestra, y con la mexicana Berenice Castro, la responsable de los voluntarios, quien nos da la visión desde dentro de este festival que hemos podido disfrutar en el corazón de la ciudad de Montreal.

After a flamenco opening, announcing the stage reappearance of Rafael Amargo, we devote the rest of the programme to the Nuits d’Afrique festival, which a few days ago celebrated its 40th edition in the cosmopolitan city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Present there was Mundofonías’ Juan Antonio Vázquez, who brought back music, voices, conversations and impressions, and even a fabulous unreleased recording of the concert given there by Les Frères Sissokho. We talk with them, with the Haitian artist Wesli, with the Burkinabè Kanazoé and other members of his Orkestra, and with the Mexican Berenice Castro, the festival’s volunteer coordinator, who gives us an inside view of this festival that we were able to enjoy in the heart of the city of Montreal.

Escuchamos el canto de esta artista iraní, Bahar Movahed, que tuvo que dejar su tierra para que su voz no quedara confinada al secreto y la clandestinidad. En este su nuevo disco interpreta composiciones de Navid Dehghan, músico que sigue residiendo en el interior del país.

We listen to the singing of this Iranian artist, Bahar Movahed, who had to leave her homeland so that her voice would not remain confined to secrecy and hiding. On this, her new album, she performs compositions by Navid Dehghan, a musician who still lives inside the country.
