Light for a confused world
El título del programa con el que iniciamos esta nueva temporada está inspirado en los de las propias músicas que lo conforman, todas ellas extraídas de discos recién publicados o que lo harán próximamente. Se trata de un viaje desde Oriente Próximo hasta el subcontinente indio, con algunas conexiones europeas y norteamericanas. Suena el dúo del pianista libanés Philippe El Hage y el percusionista palestino Youssef Hbeisch; el grupo Wishamalii, que aúna artistas palestino-jordanos, etíopes y finlandeses; El Khat, recreando sus raíces judeo-árabes del Yemen con tímbricas inesperadas; el tañedor palestino del laúd oriental ud Nizar Rohana; la maestra del violín carnático del sur de la India Jyotsna Srikanth, y más artistas que exploran esas raíces carnáticas en combinación con otras influencias, como la vocalista Varijashree Venugopal, en complicidad con el deslumbrante tañedor estadounidense de banjo Béla Fleck, o el violinista Arun Ramamurthy, con su trío. Terminamos con el «disco perdido» de Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, que recupera grabaciones inéditas realizadas en 1990 y que ahora ven la luz por primera vez.
The title of the program with which we begin this new season is inspired by the ones of the music played, all from recently published or soon-to-be-released albums. It is a journey from the Middle East to the Indian subcontinent, with some European and North American connections. We listen to the duo of Lebanese pianist Philippe El Hage and Palestinian percussionist Youssef Hbeisch; the group Wishamalii, uniting Palestinian-Jordanian, Ethiopian, and Finnish artists; El Khat, recreating their Judeo-Arabic Yemeni roots with unexpected timbres; Palestinian ud player Nizar Rohana; Carnatic violin master Jyotsna Srikanth from South India, and more artists exploring Carnatic roots in combination with other influences, like vocalist Varijashree Venugopal, in collaboration with dazzling American banjo player Béla Fleck, or violinist Arun Ramamurthy with his trio. We finish with the «lost album» of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, featuring previously unreleased recordings from 1990, now seeing the light for the first time.
