European Folk Day 2025

Un año más, Mundofonías se suma al European Folk Day, una iniciativa que impulsa la European Folk Network por tercer año ya y que pretende dar visibilidad a las músicas y artes de raíz popular en Europa, a través de una convocatoria descentralizada de actividades que puedes consultar en la web www.europeanfolkday.eu. Aprovechamos para estrenar un buen número de novedades europeas, que nos hacen viajar por Suecia, Escocia, Gales, Bretaña, Ucrania, Hungría, Italia y Grecia.

Once again this year, Mundofonías joins the European Folk Day, an initiative promoted by the European Folk Network for the third year already, which aims to give visibility to folk and roots music and arts in Europe, through a decentralized call for activities that you can check on the website www.europeanfolkday.eu. We also take the opportunity to premiere a good number of new European releases, which take us traveling through Sweden, Scotland, Wales, Brittany, Ukraine, Hungary, Italy and Greece.

Sonido amazónico: Ranil y su Conjunto Tropical / Los Zheros

Viajamos a los añejos y sabrosos sones de la Amazonia peruana de los años 70, donde ebullían formaciones que enlazaban cumbia, psicodelia y muchos más ingredientes, para crear un muy original sonido. El sello Vampisoul nos deleita con sendos recopilatorios que nos llevan a esos tiempos y parajes, con la música de Los Zheros y de Ranil y su Conjunto Tropical.

We travel to the vintage and flavorful sounds of the Peruvian Amazon of the 70s, where bands thrived that blended cumbia, psychedelia and many more ingredients to create a very original sound. The label Vampisoul delights us with two compilations that take us back to those times and places, with the music of Los Zheros and Ranil y su Conjunto Tropical.

Desde la Amazonia peruana hasta el corazón de Asia viajamos en este programa que nos lleva por Argentina (con conexión polaca), Tejas, Brasil, Pakistán, Afganistán… ¡e incluso Saturno! Homenajeamos a grandes maestros que nos han dejado recientemente, como Hermeto Pascoal, Raúl Barboza, Flaco Jiménez y Jamshied Sharifi, y recordamos también a las víctimas del terremoto de Afganistán y las inundaciones en Sindh y el Punyab pakistaní.

From the Peruvian Amazon to the heart of Asia, we travel in this program that takes us through Argentina (with a Polish connection), Texas, Brazil, Pakistan, Afghanistan… and even Saturn! We pay tribute to great maestros who have recently left us, such as Hermeto Pascoal, Raúl Barboza, Flaco Jiménez and Jamshied Sharifi, and we also remember the victims of the Afghanistan earthquake and the floods in Sindh and Pakistani Punjab.

Kaabi Kouyaté

Kaabi Kouyaté rinde en este “Tribute to Kandia”, editado por Buda Musique, un sentido homenaje a su padre, Kandia Kouyaté, reputado griot (juglar) en los años de la recién lograda independencia de Guinea, hasta su fallecimiento en 1977. Su linaje artístico y, por tanto, el de su hijo Kaabi, se remonta hasta la fundación del imperio mandinga, allá por el siglo XIII.

Kaabi Kouyaté pays a heartfelt tribute to his father, Kandia Kouyaté, a renowned griot (bard) during the years following the newly achieved independence of Guinea, in this “Tribute to Kandia”, released by Buda Musique, until his passing in 1977. His artistic lineage, and therefore that of his son Kaabi, traces back to the founding of the Mandinka empire in the 13th century.

Gathering artists from India to Paris, through the Balkans, and from Egypt to the Middle East, the Slovenian artist Haris Pilton, together with the Balkan Voodoo Orchestra, invites us to dance and have fun with a Balkan twist with this album, “Soon in your village”, released by the label Asphalt Tango Records.
