We enjoy wonderful and surprising music arriving from the vast African continent, with its more than a thousand musical worlds. These are sounds taken from recent productions that travel to our ears from Mauritania, Benin, Ethiopia, Uganda, Mali, La Reunión and Madagascar.

Comenzamos disfrutando de los tres discos favoritos de diciembre del 2025: el volumen 31 de la serie “Éthiopiques”, dedicado a Muluken Mèllèssè, y los que firman la arista húngara Veronika Varga y la iraní Mehrnam Rastegari. Continuamos con más novedades que nos llevan por Dinamarca, Polonia, los Balcanes, Rusia o la caribeña isla de Curasao, para terminar con varias producciones del sello neerlandés Audiomaze, con artistas de muy diversa procedencia entremezclando sones tropicales, orientales y jazz.

We begin by enjoying the three favourite albums of December 2025: volume 31 of the series “Éthiopiques”, dedicated to Muluken Mèllèssè, and the ones by the Hungarian artist Veronika Varga and the Iranian Mehrnam Rastegari. We continue with more new releases that take us through Denmark, Poland, the Balkans, Russia and the Caribbean island of Curaçao, ending with several productions from the Dutch label Audiomaze, with artists of very diverse backgrounds blending tropical and oriental sounds, and jazz.

Doble alegría en esta edición milmundana en Radio 5, con las dos nuevas entregas de la mítica serie “Éthiopiques”, con la que desde hace más de dos décadas nos deleita el sello Buda Musique. El volumen 32 está dedicado a la música del artista de origen armenio, trasladado a Etiopía, Nersès Nalbandian, y el 31 a la increíble voz de Muluken Mèllèssè.

Double joy in this Mil Mundos en Radio 5 edition, with the two new instalments of the legendary series “Éthiopiques”, with which the label Buda Musique has delighted us for more than two decades. Volume 32 is dedicated to the music of the artist of Armenian origin who moved to Ethiopia, Nersès Nalbandian, and volume 31 to the incredible voice of Muluken Mèllèssè.

From Africa to India with a klezmer finale

Presentamos nuevos álbumes que nos traen aires africanos desde Benín, Mali y Etiopía, destacando dos nuevas entregas de una serie discográfica ya mítica: “Étiopiques”. Las siguientes inspiraciones nos llevan al sur de Asia, con conexiones con Europa y Estados Unidos, donde terminamos, con la reedición de un clásico indispensable del klezmer.

We present new albums that bring us African sounds from Benin, Mali and Ethiopia, highlighting two new releases of a legendary record series: “Étiopiques”. The following inspirations take us to South Asia, with connections to Europe and the United States, where we finish with the reissue of an essential klezmer classic.

El grupo taiwanés 3peoplemusic nos muestra un imaginativo y cautivante juego y manejo con los instrumentos y las formas musicales de la tradición china, en combinación con múltiples influencias. Mientras nos deleitan con las músicas de su último trabajo “Him, her, it, and three”, también nos enseñan a pronunciar con propiedad su nombre en chino.

The Taiwanese group 3peoplemusic presents us with an imaginative and captivating exploration and handling of the instruments and musical forms of Chinese tradition, combined with multiple influences. While they delight us with the music from their latest work “Him, Her, It, and Three”, they also teach us how to properly pronounce their name in Chinese.

Son nuevos trabajos musicales de artistas que indagan en sonoridades persas, árabes y túrquicas, en conexión con elementos del jazz, la música clásica occidental, tradiciones populares de otros parajes y mucha imaginación y experimentación. Oriental-scented music resonates. These are new musical works by artists who explore Persian, Arab and Turkic sonorities, in connection with elements of jazz, Western classical music, popular traditions from other places and much imagination and experimentation. Repaso libre a la Transglobal World Music Chart de este mes, confeccionada a través de la votación de un panel de divulgadores de las músicas del mundo de todos los continentes, del que los hacedores de Mundofonías somos cocreadores y coimpulsores. Resuenan músicas de raíces húngaras, brasileñas, persas, libanesas, galesas, tuaregs, congoleñas y algo de afrobeat hecho en Norteamérica. El número uno es para la mauritana Noura Mint Seymali.

Our loose overview of this month’s Transglobal World Music Chart, created through the voting of a panel of world music disseminators from all continents, of which the makers of Mundofonías are co-creators and co-promoters. Hungarian, Brazilian, Persian, Lebanese, Welsh, Tuareg and Congolese rooted music resonates, along with some Afrobeat made in North America. Number one goes to the Mauritanian Noura Mint Seymali.
