The ud (oriental lute) player Tarek Abdallah and the riq tambourine master Adel Shams El Din, both originally from the Egyptian city of Alexandria, offer us their refined art in a second joint album, “Ousoul”. An edition of the prestigious French label Buda Musique that immerses us in the secrets and nuances of Arabic classical music.

European Folk Day 2024

Celebramos la segunda edición del European Folk Day, que tiene lugar en torno al 23 de septiembre y agrupa actividades de todo tipo en torno a las músicas de raíz hechas en Europa, como esta edición radiofónica. Aprovechamos para confeccionar un programa compuesto casi por completo por estrenos discográficos que nos traen sones de los cosacos de Ucrania, nórdicos, occitanos, célticos, así como con raíces de fuera de Europa (árabes, etíopes, judeoyemeníes, brasileñas…), que nos acercan músicos instalados en el continente. Y también ecos de los emigrantes irlandeses en la Argentina del siglo XIX.

We celebrate the second edition of the European Folk Day, which takes place around September 23 and brings together activities of all kinds around the roots music made in Europe, as this radio broadcast edition. We take the opportunity to put together a program composed almost entirely of premieres that bring us sounds from the Ukrainian Cossacks, Nordic, Occitan, Celtic, as well as roots from outside Europe (Arab, Ethiopian, Judeo-Yemeni, Brazilian…), brought to us by musicians settled on the continent. And also echoes of Irish emigrants in 19th century Argentina.

New Orleans Klezmer All Stars

Tres décadas llevan los de la New Orleans Klezmer All Stars haciendo música con vigor, con humor y con amor por la vida, como ellos mismos proclaman. Y después de casi una década de silencio discográfico, vuelven con este autoproducido “Tipish”, en el que siguen combinando las sonoridades klezmer, originarias de las comunidades judías de la Europa central y oriental, el hondo calado jazzístico de su ciudad, Nueva Orleans, y una buena dosis de experimentación y jugueteo musical.

For three decades the New Orleans Klezmer All Stars have been making music with vigor, humor and love for life, as they themselves proclaim. And after almost a decade of recording silence, they return with this self-produced “Tipish”, in which they continue to combine the klezmer sonorities, originated in the Jewish communities of Central and Eastern Europe, the deep jazzy roots of their city, New Orleans, and a good amount of experimentation and musical playfulness.

Nos deleitamos con la nueva música de estos dos grandes artistas de Mali: el virtuoso tañedor de ngoni, ese pequeño instrumento de cuerda afrooccidental, Bassekou Kouyate, y la cantora Amy Sacko. Su nuevo disco, «Djudjon, l’oiseau de Garana» (‘Djudjon, el pájaro de Garana’), editado por One World Records, es un homenaje a Garana, la localidad maliense de donde proceden y donde ha sido grabado este álbum, absolutamente acústico y hechizante.

We are delighted with the new music of these two great artists from Mali: the virtuoso ngoni player, that small Western African stringed instrument, Bassekou Kouyate, and the singer Amy Sacko. Their new album, “Djudjon, l’Oiseau de Garana” (Djudjon, the Bird of Garana), released by One World Records, is a tribute to Garana, the Malian town where they come from and where this album was recorded, absolutely acoustic and spellbinding.
