Repaso libre a la Transglobal World Music Chart de este mes, confeccionada a través de la votación de un panel de divulgadores de las músicas del mundo de todos los continentes, del que los hacedores de Mundofonías somos cocreadores y coimpulsores. En este mes de febrero del 2025, resuenan ecos de Nueva Zelanda, Polonia, Colombia, Croacia, Bosnia, Hungría, Estambul, Taiwán y Mali, para terminar con la recreación de la música andalusí de Al Andaluz Project, con la recopilación que le ha situado en el número 1.

Free review of the Transglobal World Music Chart for this month, compiled through the voting of a panel of world music broadcasters from all continents, of which we, the makers of Mundofonías, are co-creators and co-promoters. In this February 2025, echoes of New Zealand, Poland, Colombia, Croatia, Bosnia, Hungary, Istanbul, Taiwan, and Mali resonate, concluding with the recreation of Andalusi music by Al Andaluz Project, with the compilation that has placed it at number 1.

La cantora, compositora y guitarrista chilena Natalia Contesse cierra su tetralogía dedicada a los cuatro elementos con este “Futuro primitivo” dedicado al fuego. La inspiración tradicional, surgida del estudio y el cultivo de los géneros populares de la música chilena, brinda el marco perfecto a una poesía cautivadora.

The singer, composer, and guitarist from Chile, Natalia Contesse, concludes her tetralogy dedicated to the four elements with this “Futuro primitivo,” dedicated to fire. The traditional inspiration, emerging from the study and cultivation of popular genres of Chilean music, provides the perfect framework for a captivating poetry.

Simon Thacker & Justyna Jablonska

El guitarrista escocés Simon Thacker y la violonchelista polaca Justyna Jablonska entretejen las cuerdas de sus instrumentos en un disco dedicado al repertorio de las músicas gitanas: “Songs of the Roma”. Destacan sus arreglos intrincados e intrigantes y una virtuosa ejecución, contando también con otros espléndidos músicos para este trabajo, como la cantante y violinista Masha Natanson.

The Scottish guitarist Simon Thacker and the Polish cellist Justyna Jablonska intertwine the strings of their instruments in an album dedicated to the repertoire of Roma music: “Songs of the Roma.” Their intricate and intriguing arrangements stand out, along with a virtuosic performance, also featuring other splendid musicians for this work, such as the singer and violinist Masha Natanson.

Through the Caucasus, the Urals and the Volga

Mil culturas, o, más bien, miles, se han entrecruzado a lo largo de la historia por tierras del Cáucaso, los Urales y el Volga, en la confluencia de Asia y Europa, donde hoy en día perviven y florecen infinidad de lenguas, músicas y expresiones. Recorremos algunas de ellas, partiendo de ediciones discográficas salidas no hace mucho del horno, con mención especial y homenaje a la recientemente desaparecida artista de origen tártaro Zulya Kamalova.

A thousand cultures — or rather, thousands — have intertwined throughout history in the lands of the Caucasus, the Urals and the Volga. Situated at the crossroads of Asia and Europe, this region is home to a thriving diversity of languages, music, and artistic expressions. In this exploration, we journey through some of these cultural treasures, starting with recent music releases, with a special mention and tribute to the recently departed Tatar-born artist Zulya Kamalova.

JB Moundele es un saxofonista francés imbuido de africanidad. Procedente de la escena del jazz, ha colaborado con grandes figuras de ese continente tan musical. En este autoproducido “Racines” (‘Raíces’) nos ofrece un hermoso y delicado diálogo musical con la kora de Mbady Diabate y las percusiones de Bruno Desbiolles.

JB Moundele is a French saxophonist deeply influenced by African culture. Coming from the jazz scene, he has collaborated with some of the greatest figures from that richly musical continent. In this self-produced album “Racines” (“Roots”), he offers us a beautiful and delicate musical dialogue with the kora of Mbady Diabate and the percussion of Bruno Desbiolles.

Disfrutamos de sabrosos sones cumbiancheros incluidos en esta retrospectiva titulada “Güepa je!”, que vuelve la mirada hacia las celebradas composiciones e interpretaciones de uno de los más venerados representantes de la música colombiana popular del siglo pasado: Edmundo Arias. Es una reciente edición del sello belga Radio Martiko.

We enjoy the flavorful cumbia rhythms included in this retrospective titled “Güepa je!”, which looks back at the celebrated compositions and performances of one of the most revered representatives of Colombian popular music of the last century: Edmundo Arias. It is a recent release by the Belgian label Radio Martiko.
