Abrimos con los tres discos favoritos de Mundofonías del mes de mayo del 2022: las músicas de Maga Bo y amigos, desde Brasil, de los Master Musicians of Jajouka, desde el Rif marroquí y de Ali Doğan Gönültaş, desde Anatolia. Seguimos viajando con ecos otomanos, poesías clandestinas en los campos de concentración nazis y otros sones que nos llevan por Viena, Rumanía, las Grandes Llanuras, Francia, Argentina, Colombia y las Californias, recordando también a Willie Sotelo, de El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, recientemente fallecido.

We open with the three Mundofonías‘ favorite albums for May 2022: the music of Maga Bo and friends, from Brazil, the Master Musicians of Jajouka, from the Moroccan Rif and Ali Doğan Gönültaş, from Anatolia. We continue traveling with Ottoman echoes, clandestine poetry in Nazi concentration camps and other sounds that take us through Vienna, Romania, the Great Plains, France, Argentina, Colombia and the Californias, also honoring Willie Sotelo, of El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, who recently passed away.

Afrohuellas, Sudamérica y los mares del sur
Afrofootprints, South America and the South Seas

Os acercamos novedades sonoras que nos llegan desde África (Mali y Malawi) y Sudamérica (Colombia y Perú). Después nos zambullimos en los mares del sur, con el sello australiano Wantok Musik y sonidos que nos llegan desde Vanuatu, Tonga, Australia y Papúa Nueva Guinea. En la última parte del programa evocamos músicas de raíces africanas hechas en España, con motivo de la edición del libro «Afrohuellas«.

We bring you new sounds coming from Africa (Mali and Malawi) and South America (Colombia and Peru). Then we dive into the South Seas, with the Australian label Wantok Musik and music coming from Vanuatu, Tonga, Australia and Papua New Guinea. In the last part of the program we evoke African roots music made in Spain, on the occasion of the publication of the book «Afrohuellas«.

Repaso libre a la Transglobal World Music Chart del mes, confeccionada a través de la votación de un panel de divulgadores de las músicas del mundo de todos los continentes, del que los hacedores de Mundofonías somos cocreadores y coimpulsores. Este mes de junio del 2022 exploramos músicas que aires persas, brasileños, calipsonianos, flamencos, portugueses y del mar Rojo. Terminamos con el número uno, que es el nuevo disco de la cantora maliense Oumou Sangaré. ¡Enhorabuena!

A loose review of the Transglobal World Music Chart for this month, determined by a panel of world music specialists from all the continents, of which the Mundofonías‘ presenters are co-creators and co-promoters. Suenan músicas de profunda raigambre que nos hacen viajar por África y el Oriente a través de grabaciones nuevas y antiguas, todas ellas de reciente o próxima publicación. Resuenan ecos del África ecuatorial, el mar Rojo sudanés, las montañas del Rif y las comunidades «gnawa» de Marruecos, así como sonoridades árabes, turcas, indias, persas, mongolas y mediterráneas.

We listen to deep-rooted music that takes us on a journey across Africa and the East through new and old recordings, all of them recently or soon to be released. We bring echoes of equatorial Africa, the Sudanese Red Sea, the Rif Mountains and the gnawa communities of Morocco, as well as Arab, Turkish, Indian, Persian, Mongolian and Mediterranean musical scents.

Escuchamos agitadas músicas que nos ofrecen diversos encuentros globales entre Congo, Bélgica y Argentina, entre México y Texas, entre Java y Francia, o que nos muestran lo que se cuece en la brasileña urbe de Bahia. Terminamos con ecos del norte de la India, incluido el recuerdo al gran tañedor de santur Shivkumar Sharma.

We listen to lively music that offers us diverse global encounters between Congo, Belgium and Argentina, between Mexico and Texas, between Java and France, or that show us what is happening in the Brazilian city of Bahia. We end with echoes from the north of India, including a tribute to the great santur player Shivkumar Sharma.
