Sones tropicales y gaitas ibéricas
Tropical sounds and Iberian pipes

Comenzamos con viejas y nuevas grabaciones que nos traen ecos de Colombia y Cuba, para saltar a la península Ibérica, escuchando a los gaiteros que participan en el proyecto «Piperegrinos: As gaitas do Camiño», que nos llegan desde Aragón, Asturias, Cataluña, Castilla y León, Portugal y Galicia. Terminamos con el recuerdo y homenaje a Rudy Gomis, de la Orquesta Baobab, y con otros sones de inspiraciones afooccidentales.

We begin with old and new recordings that bring us echoes of Colombia and Cuba, to jump to the Iberian Peninsula, listening to the pipers who participate in the project «Piperegrinos: As gaitas do Camiño», who come from Aragon, Asturias, Catalonia, Castile and Leon, Portugal and Galicia. We finish with a tribute to Rudy Gomis, from Orchestra Baobab, and with other sounds of West African inspirations.

Navegando de Trinidad a Persia
Sailing from Trinidad to Persia 

Navegamos musicalmente desde sonidos tropicales que nos llegan de Gambia (con conexión italiana), Trinidad (con conexión canadiense) y Brasil, para recalar en tierras de navegantes: Portugal. Continuamos nuestra singladura hacia el Mediterráneo oriental, pasando por Grecia, Estambul, Anatolia y Chipre, llegando hasta Persia. Todo ello a base de maravillosas novedades musicales.

We navigate musically from tropical sounds coming from Gambia (with an Italian connection), Trinidad (with a Canadian connection) and Brazil, to arrive in a land of navigators: Portugal. We continue our sailing towards the Eastern Mediterranean, passing through Greece, Istanbul, Anatolia and Cyprus, also arriving to Persia. All this accompanied by marvellous musical new releases.

Pasamos buena parte de esta edición de Mundofonías disfrutando con músicas de la «Rough Guide to Jewish music«, de próxima edición. Suenan músicas de raíces judías, principalmente de las culturas askenazí y sefardí, con especial mención a la cantora Mara Aranda, quien nos visita con tres de sus estupendos proyectos incluidos en este recopilatorio. Recordamos la web y el boletín semanal Music Before Shabbat, elaborado por la mundófona Araceli Tzigane, donde podéis descubrir muchas más de estas músicas en la web musicbeforeshabbat.com. Completamos el programa con más novedades musicales que nos llegan desde Portugal y una Hungría con conexiones serbias.

We spend a large part of this edition of Mundofonías enjoying music from the forthcoming «Rough Guide to Jewish music«. We listen to music with Jewish roots, mainly from the Ashkenazi and Sephardic cultures, with special mention to singer Mara Aranda, who visits us with three of her wonderful projects featured in this compilation. Transglobal World Music Chart
Mayo 2022 / May 2022 

Repaso libre a la Transglobal World Music Chart del mes, confeccionada a través de la votación de un panel de divulgadores de las músicas del mundo de todos los continentes, del que los hacedores de Mundofonías somos cocreadores y coimpulsores. Este mes de mayo del 2022 exploramos músicas que conectan Alemania con los Balcanes, Gales con Senegal, Norteamérica con Sudáfrica, mientras viajamos también por el sur de la India, por el Cáucaso georgiano y por São Tomé e Príncipe. Terminamos con el número uno, que es el nuevo disco de la cantora iraní Marjan Vahdat. ¡Enhorabuena!

A loose review of the Transglobal World Music Chart for this month, determined by a panel of world music specialists from all the continents, of which the Mundofonías‘ presenters are co-creators and co-promoters. This month of May 2022 we explore musics that connect Germany with the Balkans, Wales with Senegal, North America with South Africa and we also travel through South India, the Georgian Caucasus and São Tomé e Príncipe.
